Nobody should take this Melnyk moment too seriously.
Sens/Trillium need to float financing upwards of $7.5b. for Rendez-Vous and Bayview. Sens are around 10% of project. Projects are adjacent to each other and the jewels of the new LRT system.
Melnyk is merely a placeholder until the new group is ready to unveil their corporate structure.
I am still guessing that Bernie Ash is named CEO of Rendez-Vous and Bayview developments. I expect Daniel Alfredssen to be named President of Sens hockey operations.
These are mere guesses on my part. |

Just the next step to Melnyk becoming GM, Coach, Equipment Manager...
I am embarrassed and counting the days before he says/does something idiotic. You have to assume any decision made about this team now is strictly made by Eugene and GMPD is just the figurehead to take the blame. Owner/President kidding me? |

Did any of you guys do a count on the number of Goals the Sens scored on the Leafs in two games. For people who don't think the exhibition games don't mean anything your doing lots of talking about the outcomes.
Oops, sorry, talking about all the games except for the games where Sens wishbones the Leafs. Actually, ever since those games you seem fine to talk about other games. So funny, your all terrified of being ripped once the new season starts. - spatso

I think he is just a place holder until he finds someone else.
However, I love this news!
The reason I love it, is because maybe now EM will see how pissed off people are and maybe he will finally see that he can't be cheap when it comes to owning a hockey team in a Canadian market.
Putting him closer in the "action" with the team should make him see everything he is doing wrong because if he messes up it's on him. |

i'm in the same boat.....he was already making all the decisions anyways, the CEO was just a figurehead, someone for melnyk to blame when things went wrong. i don't think this will change anything......except that melnyk will no longer have anyone to blame but himself |

I think he does pay attention, but I also think he isn't so into details about how the fan base really feels and if he thinks he can win a cup on a budget he's nuts.
He tends to have fall people that when his decisions fail he blames. Now he has no one to blame but himself. |

I hate say this because Canada needs to keep teams, not lose them, but I think this makes you guys a candidate to move to Seattle. If I recall it was Melnyk who at some point over the last year opined how good they’d look in another city. |

The NHL history has made it pretty clear that they would rather keep teams in the same city and change ownership then move. Bettman has already said Ottawa isn't moving.
If any NHL is moved it would likely be Arizona or Carolina. |

Jesus dude, do you even follow hockey or do you just focus on your team and know nothing else?
Senators aside, Seattle just applied for an expansion team. Why would the NHL move a team when they get 600 million for expansion. And then there's the fact that there are several teams in far worse shape than Ottawa who would be moved first.

I am willing to give Mr. Melynk a new chance ( why not, appears he is not going anywhere).Recently he has said all the right things. He is about to open a full time office in Ottawa for president operations. I think Mr.Dorion and Melnyk know what they have to do,and will do it . At least that is what i am going to believe, right up until the start of 018/019. Then we will see what their plan is clearly and how they executed . |

You have an excellent track record with your guesses. You should quit being embarassingly gutless and come back and review some of your more epic failures, for sh1ts and giggles. We all laugh at them every day.

and i believe there is a clause with Carolina that will not allow the team to be moved for quite some time.
Arizona? i doubt it too, thats been a story for over a decade..
Bettman with all his faults ,really does not give up on cities with nhl...and thats good |

I'm not trolling. Didn't Melnyk recently say he thought the Sens would look good in another city?
EDIT: Here you go. No reason to get hostile. I don't want to see any teams move.

I definitely think they'd move first as well, but if your owner is looking to move it could change the landscape.

I believe he compared our franchise to a Mcdonalds and said "a Mcdonalds franchise is worth more to move then sell"
But then he back tracked after saying "The Sens aren't going anywhere other then downtown"
and Bettman said no one has ever put in a request to move the Ottawa Franchise and even if he did they would look to sell within Ottawa before ever moving.
Deep down I think he was trying to give an empty threat of moving the team to push for the downtown arena and put more pressure there to move the project forward.
I will also give Bettman a ton of credit, he is not a well liked man but for keeping teams where they are and expanding the NHL he has done amazing. |
